Struggling with Infertility?

So you are struggling to get pregnant, have been told to stop worrying, cut down your stress, stay positive and just RELAX!

How are you going to do that you wonder. How could that possibly happen when you’ve been try to fall pregnant for so long and it’s ALL you can think about and there is no definite answers to your questions.

Unfortunately it is true that stress could be impacting your fertility in numerous ways:

  • You might find you are less likely to actually have sex with your partner.

  • Your reaching out for alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or eating to much sugar when you are stressed

  • Studies have shown that stress hormones themselves can result in a delay in or eventually even stop ovulation. The University of California undertook a study which showed stressed women produced 20% fewer eggs per cycle compared to women who were not stressed.

  • Oxford University undertook a study which showed women whose saliva had high levels of alpha-amylase, an enzyme that marks stress, had a marked decrease in conception levels.

  • Studies have also show that people often don’t start fertility treatment, or abandoned treatments due to their emotional stress levels rather than actually medical prognosis.

How Can I Cope With Stress?

It is possible to overcome anxiety and worry and to start to feel positive about your body and fertility. It is also possible for you to be happy, and appreciate the life you have now whilst still trying to conceive.

Worrying is a habit which can be broken. Knowing this you could take a small step and be open to change by deciding to practice some of the techniques I am going to share with you.

These simple ideas could start that journey to change and improve your life whether or not you fall pregnant.

Listen to a Relax mp3

Taking some time out to just be aware of your body and too actually breathe is therapeutic in its own right. Giving yourself this “you” time to really switch off can help to reduce your stress hormones and help your body prepare for a good night’s sleep.

Start a Gratitude Journal

Trying for a baby can easily take over your thoughts and life and you can begin to forget to enjoy the life you have.

Start to write down 3 -5 things daily that you are grateful for. This will help you to seek out the positives in your life, instead of allowing your mind to focus on the negatives of why you haven’t fallen pregnant yet. Helping to release endorphins, increase feelings of wellbeing and create a new focus of attention.

Practice 7 -11 Breathing

Breathing is a very effective self-help tool that can create a feeling of relaxation and increased wellbeing.

Inhale in for 7 counts through your nose, pause briefly and then exhale slowly out for 11 through your mouth. Or you can try 5 breaths in and 7 out if you prefer! Repeat this a few times until you feel yourself beginning to relax.

The importance part of this technique is its emphasis on extending the exhalation which will increase relaxation and help balance the autonomic nervous system.

Practicing when you are not stressed will help it to become more automatic when you are.

Put a “Worrying time” in your Diary

Put a “worry" half hour in your diary every day, ideally at the same time and in the same place.

If you find yourself worrying just write a note of what you are anxious about and wait until the designated time when you are allowed to worry. Make yourself choose a set time and place for worrying.
If you realise that you can develop the ability to delay your worrying thoughts, you’ll then realise that you can have more control over your worrying than you thought.

Exercise – but not too much

Physical activity is also known to lower stress. 1 to 5 hours a week of activities like walking, raised the odds of conception in a study by Lauren Wise, ScD, professor of epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health. However, women who worked out too vigorously were found less likely to fall pregnant.

What changes are you prepared to make today to help you be less stressed and happier on your journey to motherhood?

I hope you found something useful for you. Try a couple and you might just be surprised at the results.

What Will A Hypnosis Session Be Like?

Professional Hypnosis is nothing like stage hypnosis, it is safe and is not something to be frightened of. A session will have you feeling like you are in a “dreamlike” state, you will remain aware of what is happening and won’t do or say anything against your will.  You will be able to stop at any time you wish and most people find it a calming experience.

When you are in a relaxing, trance state your brain produces endorphins which helps restore hormone balance, regulate the nervous system and promote a healthy immune system.  Talking to your unconscious mind in this state, using visualisations and suggestions we can help to change any unhelpful ways of feeling, thinking or behaving.
